The sad thing is that certain lawmakers in Europe blindly want to go in the same direction as the US.

This has already lead to a privatization of healthcare insurance and semi-privatization of hospitals and clinics. Insurance costs have doubled, and tripled for those who need extra care.

Call me an old commie, but when it comes to healthcare I don't think capitalism should play any part, as it only hurts those who are already suffering. Nobody chooses to get ill, nobody wants to go into surgery. Next thing you'll have to pay firefighters to save your home, or police to catch someone who robbed you.

There is a thin line between capitalism and corruption.

<blockquote>
Plus, it would allow the public to have greater choice than just A or B which should lead to a more sane government.
</blockquote>
Yeah, keep on dreaming about sane government. Although a multi-party system is certainly preferable, it's still filled with politicians. There's your problem!

My personal belief is that a person should vote for a party that is closest to their values, it's just a pity that voting in such a way won't do a lot of good. The ability to vote by ranking your preferences (like in the Debian 'elections') is much fairer, unfortunately such a system is too complicated for your average voter.

Democracy, the dictatorship of the majority.

About buying non-wrapped fruit and vegetables in the store: do you know that there's actually more plastics involved in getting them there then in their plastic-packaged counterparts? That's especially interesting when trying to `buy green' (e.g., try to cause as little waste as possible). An interesting project in that regard was done by a BBC journalist at http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/monthwithoutplastic/

Also, packaged plastic food tends to stay well longer for a considerable time.

You have a point with those chemicals needing a closer look. It won't be the first time that we find a commonly used material hazardous :)

so what , 3 30 second slots ,, beter than a 30 second ad that will get played 3 times in the same period and gets on your nerves so much that you would never by the product , money is no object realy to m$ , but if its the same there as here that should not matter as they would get advertising funds as a tax break anyway
,,, what gets me is the other form of advertising , sponcership ,, you dont see the m$ logo supporting lots of sports , and other active sponcership that benifits others that also in effect costs m$ nothing as its part of the same tax break !!!!
