The Zipit 2 is a really neat handheld instant messaging device that I bought a while back. It currently runs a really stripped down version of Linux. That inspired me to hack the device to make it run a totally new and improved Linux OS. And that’s what I’ve been working on at my Zipit 2 System project site. My goal is to not only run a completely customized Linux OS on the device but also to build hardware modules that will expand its capabilities. This includes a camera and even a GSM module so you can get internet access anywhere you have cell phone reception.
So far, with some help from others, the serial and JTAG ports have been found which have allowed me to try out customized Linux kernels directly on the hardware. With this, I’ve also tested the USB device port that has been brought out to the back connector which will eventually allow you to directly connect the Zipit2 to a host computer. I hope to be able to get back to work on this project soon.

The posts below are from my old blog. They’re mostly for historical reference just in case anyone actually found them to contain useful information (among my bad use of the English language at times). Unfortunately, I won’t be bringing over the comments made to these posts from the bBlog install as there is way too many spam comments that have crowded out the good ones. Also, some links maybe dead, and keep in mind, Clusterix as a project is dead.

Note to self: make sure the washing machine’s sewer pipe is securely attached to the wall drain or be prepared to clean up a huge mess. It’s a good thing that our laundry room is in the basement and that the pipe fell out of the wall drain during the last cycle so the amount of water drained on the floor was minimized.

For all those who may not know me from irc.freenode.net or from my old blog (or even real life), I offer you this blog post and my about me page. I’m just a 22 year old geek interested in many different things from construction and computers to filming and electronics. I’m not afraid to take on projects way over my head as long as I have a plan, or to get dirty working out in the yard. I love to solve problems and to get that feeling of satisfaction after getting something to work. I’m also a fairly strict vegan though not for philosophical reasons and would like to get back to my exercise routine once my health issues clear up. I currently have gallstones and will be heading in for surgery in the coming weeks. I also have an odd heart problem that causes my heart rate to drop below 40 beats per minute sometimes.
Besides dealing with the doctors, my life is consumed by my hobbies. I love to tinker with electronics and to film stuff. I’ll be heading back to college in January to finish my computer science degree, but I still want to see where my interests in videography takes me. I’m planning on attempting to combine the two with a video podcast called “This Old Gadget.” I hope to one day film the first episode once I get a crew to help film it.
Now we’ll see what happens in the coming months. . .

After many years of not updating my old blog and the server that hosted it crashing, I now have a brand new blog to welcome everyone to! Well, that’s if anyone reading this actually read and remembers the old blog. . . Thanks aquatix for setting up the hosting.
Anyway, I may start bringing over some of the old posts to this one so I can keep it all together. I’m also going to be adding features and tweaking things on this new one, so things might get really strange over the next few weeks.
I hope to now update once a day with new and interesting things I find around the web and stuff that happens in real life, that’s if I don’t lose interest again. . .
